Early Christmas

My husband surprised me with my Christmas present early.  A new Brother sewing machine. It handles so smoothly, I absolutely love it.

My first project with it was an apron. I found the pattern and tutorial at Liesl Made. It was surprisingly easy and I didn’t have any problems at all making it.  I ended up with a couple of crooked stitches, but only because I had gotten distracted by the boys.  And, I am proud to say, there was absolutely no bunching.

To finish this project off, I thought it’d be fun to make a matching potholder or two. I used one of my old potholders to trace the basic size and started sketching out a pattern.  However, it looks like I need more padding. When laying all the fabric out to test, I didn’t feel like it would be something I’d be comfortable grabbing something out of the oven with. So, the pattern lays in wait until my next trip to Wal-mart when I can grab some more padding and complete my project.

I’m kind of excited and nervous about my next project. Jeans. I took a pair of my old jeans that are holy and thinned out to practically underwear and cut them at the seams. (May they rest in peace, I will surely miss them.) I used that to trace out my pattern and then spent a good two hours measuring and remeasuring me and the pattern to try and get it perfect and ready for transfer. I’m so nervous that the measurements won’t be right and I’m very tempted to redo it again. However, after lunch, I’m just going to lay my prewashed material out on the table and trace my pattern on and start cutting. If I’m lucky, by tomorrow, I’ll have a pair of jeans that fit nicely and has a total cost of somewhere under $10.  Crosses my fingers.
